Story
In memory of my best friend Conor, I’ll be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on the 12th of October to raise money for Marie Curie. Marie Curie, for those who don’t know, is a charity that provides vital care and support to people living with a terminal illness, and their families at the toughest time.
Conor was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma cancer last year. In the face of the cruelest adversity he remained that cheeky, witty, mischievous boy throughout. I find strength now in his bravery, in his determination to make the most of the time he had left, and in his conviction that he had lived a full life in a short 25 years. He is my biggest inspiration and the truest friend I have ever known.
After a 9 month battle with cancer, Conor returned home to Cymru to spend his final 10 days at the Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth. There, he was able to rest watching the sunset over the sea, surrounded by those he loved most. He told me that he felt safe there and was content with this being a home for him. I will always find some peace in knowing this and cannot thank the staff enough for the incredible work that they do.
Conor was the absolute light of my life. I adore him endlessly and miss him dearly. If you could spare any amount to support the work Marie Curie does to support those living with a terminal illness it would mean the world.
Here's how your donation can help:
£3 helps fund a meal for a patient in one of their hospices.
£26 helps fund an hour of bereavement support by phone or webchat.
£207 helps fund nine hours of overnight nursing care in a patient's home.
Thank you so much for donating whatever you can, it really will make a massive difference.
