Story
🇺🇬 I am volunteering in a rural community school in UGANDA this June !! 🇺🇬
I’m excited to say that I am fundraising for Play Action International and will be volunteering for a month in a rural community and building a playground for the local school! I will spend time with economically and socially disadvantaged children engaging them in play based learning activities. Thank you for helping me reach my fundraising goal to ensure this project goes ahead!! Any money you donate goes straight to the charity to enrich lives through play.
Building a playground increases school attendance and creates social mobility for these children through education.
98% of schools report increase in pupil attendance. 74% of children give 'The Playground' as a reason to attend school. 83% of teachers report improvements in children's attention and behaviour in classes.
Where does your money go?
£5 will provide board games for children ♟️🎲🖍️
£15 will provide a drum set to make music 🎵 🥁
£30 will provide ‘tyre animals’ for children to go an imaginative safari 🐘🦒🦓🦏
£50 will provide a seesaw as part of a new playground! 🤩🛞
£100 will provide play-based sessions increasing parent and child interaction 🧑🧒💕
£1000 will provide an adventure assault course for children to run jump and play!! 🛝🏃♂️
Why?
When I found this opportunity to fundraise, go abroad, learn a new culture, work with children and to see the impact first hand, I got very excited!
I have a growing interest in education and educational equity. I am currently studying an elective teaching module at University that highlights the impact of social and economic disadvantage on achievement in schools. I am also considering a future career working with NGO’s which would utilise my business degree for good. I am excited to embark on this immersive volunteering opportunity, and I kindly ask for your help in making it a reality.
Sustainability
I understand the importance of sustainability when volunteering abroad which is why I chose this programme.
- Your money helps playgrounds to be built all year round and provides employment for local people.
- I am given training on my interaction with the children to mitigate any attachment problems.
- The charity employs the skilled labour from local people in the community. I perform the unskilled labour in supporting the build.
- All build materials are sourced locally which helps local businesses.
- Any tourist activities I decide to do happen during my free weekends (with my own money) and help boost the local economy.
