Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This year I am attempting a Guiness World Record. I am attempting to be the “World’s Fastest Cell” at the London marathon this year. I am going to be wearing a ridiculous 3D homemade costume to comply with the rules, and hope it doesn’t fall apart on the way round. It will certainly not be easy to run in!

I am doing this to raise awareness for analytical science, the science of measuring stuff. Our society needs scientists who are trained in this area - this is key to finding cures for cancer, combatting anti microbial resistance and climate change. Quite simply, without new measurements, and without people who are trained to measure things reliably, other disciplines will fail to make progress.

Last year, we raised over £1000 for this cause. This was used to support the activities of the charity the Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund. This provides critical opportunities for researchers at the early stages of their careers to become independent, to help engage children in schools, and to support disadvantaged groups.
