Story

Thanks for visiting my page. I'm excited to be running the London Marathon on 27th April, raising money for the British Heart Foundation and I'd be so grateful for your support.

In 2011, at the age of 38, I had a cardiac arrest as a result of a heart attack. I’m very lucky to have survived an out of hospital arrest (less than 1 in 10 do) but it needn’t have got to that stage. On the day of my cardiac arrest, I experienced nausea, sore arms and really bad indigestion. I now know that these are common heart attack symptoms in women.

Fast forward to 2025 and according to the BHF website:

‘Women are twice as likely to die of coronary heart disease, the main cause of heart attack, as breast cancer in the UK. Yet it is still not always seen as a woman’s problem.’

I’m fundraising for the BHF so that they can continue to:

- raise awareness of heart attacks in women and how their symptoms can differ, so they don’t delay seeking medical help

- support more research into women’s hearts and more women cardiologists, to close the gender inequalities in heart health and care

The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!
