Remembering Grandad Tim

Lake District Ultra Challenge 2025 · 7 June 2025 to 8 June 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
Remembering a wonderful Grandad, dad and father in law - a special, kind man who created wonderful memories for us - particularly on holiday in the Lake District and on special days out around his beautiful home of North Yorkshire.
Grandad Tim loved the Lake District and his love of it was passed on to us. It will be impossible to visit it without remembering the special times we had together there. He also enjoyed his pristine garden - and he spent many an hour on his 'plot' tending to the very best tomatoes, grapes, pumpkins, berries and vegetables. He turned much of it into produce that he would package up into boxes of goodies for his family and friends: shortbread, jams, pickled beetroot and the very best pickled onions.
He was taken away from us too soon by cancer, and so this June Simon and I will be remembering his dad by walking a marathon in the Lake District and raising money for the Critical Care Garden at James Cook Hospital.
Staff at the hospital supported Tim at various times in his life, and we like to think he would enjoy knowing that he had helped support the maintenance of a tranquil space at the hospital where patients can spend precious time with loved ones. Given that he used to maintain other people's gardens, he might appreciate not needing to wield a spade or do any weeding too!
So if you have any 'pictures of the queen' spare (as he always used to say) ...please consider sponsoring us to walk a marathon in his memory and help maintain the James Cook Critical Care Garden so it can be enjoyed by patients and staff for many years to come.
We miss you Grandad Tim.
