Bath Half 2025 · 16 March 2025 ·

Sarcoidosis is a rare disease and has poor information, support and little research for finding a cure. We work to change that. Our 4 goals; information, support, awareness and research. We receive no government money and are reliant on your generosity. Every donation makes a huge difference.

Story

In June 2024 my husband Steve was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis after months of illness and misdiagnosis. He stayed 8 days in hospital under constant observations due acute kidney injury and hypercalcaemia.

We now know that Steve has Sarcoidosis in his lungs, kidneys, spleen, eyes and skeleton. He also has inflammation on his heart in keeping with Sarcoidosis but there isn't anyone in Bristol who specialise in hearts that have experience with Sarcoidosis - so he has been referred to Brompton Hospital in London. He also has high levels of uric acid causing gout which has also stemmed from complications caused by Sarcoidosis.

Our lives have changed to accommodate Sarcoidosis, including a huge quantity of medication that my husband now needs to take to live a semi-normal life. Whilst going through this, I've continued to find that many people who I speak to have either never heard of Sarcoidosis or don't know just how seriously Sarcoidosis can affect people.

Sarcoidosis can go completely unnoticed but can also cause strain on the person who has been diagnosed, putting a significant restriction or sometimes stopper on activities that they used to be able to enjoy.

Seeing my husband go through this and how it's impacted out lives with very little information out there, I became inspired to try to do something to help.

I saw on the SarcoidosisUK website that I could sign up to run the Bath Half Marathon in 2025 to raise money for this charity and hopefully raise some awareness for this condition.

I am, a complete novice at running, I started in October 2024 and can now say that I am a bath half marathon finisher!!

I would really appreciate if you could help me to raise money for this charity by donating to this page in any way that you can. 🩷
