Thank you for taking the time to visit my justgiving page, last year my mum was diagnosed with an uncommon type of dementia called Frontotemporal. This form of dementia affects the front and sides of the brain (the frontal and temporal lobes).
Dementia mostly affects people over 65, but frontotemporal dementia tends to start at a younger age. Most cases are diagnosed in people aged 45-65, although it can also affect younger or older people. My mum was diagnosed at a young age of 64.
Unfortunately there's currently no cure for frontotemporal dementia or any treatment that will slow it down.
The average survival time after symptoms start is around 8 to 10 years. But this is highly variable and some people live much longer than this.
Alzheimer’s Society are working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today and by providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding ground-breaking research.
Thank you for choosing to trek for Alzheimer's Society, together we can be help and hope to everyone affected by dementia.
