Story
It is a common misconception that rabbits can live in hutches alone, despite research showing that they need a much bigger space to be happy. Countless rabbits spend their lives enclosed in a small space and it is deemed acceptable with pet shops routinely pushing tiny housing on pet owners.
Did you know that the minimum space for a pair of rabbits is 10ft x 6ft with a height of 3ft? This allows them to run, stretch and binky.
Ethical rescues fight to change this misunderstanding and to make the lives of rabbits, who cannot speak for themselves, better every single day.
The Littlest Lives Rescue are a Bristol based rescue led entirely by volunteers, they rescue and re-home rabbits ethically following the RWAF guidelines, including the minimum space requirement amongst their other needs - I encourage you to look up the 5 welfare needs on the RWAF website to learn more!
On the 29th of September 23 I will be shut into a cage the equivalent size of a hutch for a human for 48 hours. I will be living in similar conditions to those seen so commonly for rabbits and will be showing how it feels to be living in that kind of space. I will be there for 48 hours, but for so many rabbits that is how they spend their entire lives.
I hope to raise awareness of the needs of rabbits and to encourage new and prospective owners to meet their 5 welfare needs, including enough space.
I am also fundraising for The Littlest Lives Rescue with a target of £1,000 which will pay to build a brand new enclosure that can take in more bunnies in need and find them their happy forever homes. Please give generously - the bunnies need us!
