CLDF and the British Liver Trust have merged - we are the only UK charity for all liver conditions. We support parents, children, young people and adults affected, through tailored support and information, and we campaign for improved early detection and better treatment and care.

Story

I am running the London Marathon in memory of our Brother, Andrew Woolley, who sadly passed away on 1st March 2025.

I am raising money and awareness for the British Live Trust, and Children’s Liver Disease Foundation who have now merged. Andrew, my parents and my sister and I, experienced first hand the amazing work they do, and how valuable they are to individuals and families who are experiencing life with a liver disease.

The money that the charity raise via their own events, like Big Yellow Friday, individuals like me doing specific events and getting sponsorship is fundamental to continue to increase awareness of liver disease and its risk factors, provide information and support to those affected and continue to work with healthcare professionals. Campaign for earlier detection and better treatment and working in partnership to drive up standards of care and encourage more research.

Andrew’s journey wasn’t always easy but he never let that hold him back. He showed great courage and determination through his life and is an inspiration to so many.

Andrew was born with Alagilles Syndrome, which affects the liver. He was just 10 weeks old when he was diagnosed and in 1988, at age 8, Andrew had no choice but to have a liver transplant by the late professor Khan. Andrew was one of the longest liver transplant survivors.

Andrew lived his life without limitations and even though he faced many health problems along the way, such as Pearthe's disease, heart surgery, kidney failure and a hip replacement, he faced it head on and with a smile! Andrew's health journey didn't hold him back, or our family.

By raising money for the The British Liver Trust, I believe that we are able to contribute to the lives of others going through similar journeys; we can use his fight and his determination to really make a difference!

I am running the London Marathon for all the children and adults who are diagnosed with Liver disease, for all the survivors, for all of the angels. But i I run this Marathon in memory of my Brother, a Son, an Uncle and a dear Friend - His strength, his courage and his tenacious attitude to life will forever live on. Our Andrew will forever be my Hero.
