Story
Growing up, we are taught a simple promise: education is the key to success and the ultimate equaliser. But as we enter the corporate workforce, the reality changes. Education alone can only carry us so far. The socioeconomic sphere we've managed to tolerate relies heavily on hidden networks, inherited social capital, and unearned privilege - systemic advantages that a degree simply cannot replicate.
This reality has always been close to home. Raised in a single-parent household with zero professional networks, my education was built entirely on merit scholarships, leading to my graduation from a state university. When I moved to the UK alone in my 20s, I held the legal privilege of citizenship but possessed absolutely no social capital. Working my way into Corporate Finance without close family or professional networks sometimes felt to be an impossible ask and to be honest, no one should feel this way.
On June 13, 2026 with just under two and a half weeks away, I am taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. This involves trekking a 24-mile route across Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough, conquering 5,200 feet of raw ascent in under 12 hours.
This endurance test is a direct metaphor for the upward battle of people going through social mobility. It mirrors the invisible exhaustion of expecting to reach the same summit as the most affluent in society, but then are forced to make the climb carrying systemic weight, with no safety ropes.
I am fundraising for The 93% Club because they are actively dismantling this class ceiling. They are building the UK's largest network for state-educated individuals, providing the vital career mentorship, corporate access, and professional networks that elite private schools have monopolised for generations.
Your contribution will directly fund professional development hubs, travel bursaries, and student networks to ensure that talent, intellect, and work ethic, not background or bank balance, dictate a person's success.
If you believe that privilege can and should be used to make the climb a little less grueling for the next person, please consider supporting this journey.
Thank you for your time, your support, and for standing with me as I take on this challenge.
