The True Butterflies Foundation is a Cornwall-based registered charity (no. 1177209) that supports survivors of domestic abuse and their children. The organisation was started by Angela Lowe, herself a survivor of domestic abuse, initially as an online forum for survivors to provide mutual support. True Butterflies has subsequently grown to the point where we offer mentoring, counselling, therapy and workshops across a large area of Cornwall. We became a registered charity in February 2018. We seek to fulfil our aim of helping survivors of domestic abuse and their children through achieving the following objectives: 1. Supporting survivors and their families through their entire journey, from the moment they first identify as needing support, through the process of leaving their abuser, to dealing with ongoing conditions like PTSD and anxiety. 2. Rebuilding the confidence of survivors through provision of mentoring, counselling and therapy-based support. 3. Empowering survivors by helping them to build their self-esteem and to reach their full potential and go on to have a successful life, free from abuse.

Did you know that 1 in 4 children live in households where domestic abuse has occurred? These children carry invisible scars – anxiety, depression, PTSD, chronic stress – often struggling in silence.

Many are unable to continue in mainstream education. Over 2000 children in Cornwall are currently home-schooled due to the trauma they have experienced from domestic violence. And these are just the ones we know about.

At True Butterflies. We are dedicated to supporting individuals and families to move forward after the trauma of abuse and rebuild their lives.

Our newest initiative – the Metamorphosis Academy - is specifically designed to educationally support school-aged children who have been affected by domestic abuse.

What is the Metamorphosis Academy?

The Metamorphosis Academy is a safe, nurturing learning environment that provides:

• Educational support for children unable to thrive in a traditional setting

• Therapeutic care tailored to their trauma

• Emotional Development Support to help rebuild trust and confidence.

• Person-centred programs that pave the way for healing and potential reintegration into mainstream education

After just a short pilot program, demand has increased – our sessions are currently full, and we are ready to expand, but we can’t do it without your help
