ππ Embracing the Journey to Transform Lives: JourneyMaa 2024! ππ
As a medical student, my fascination with Obstetrics & Gynaecology ignited a passion for Women's Health and supporting mothers in their journey through childbirth. Little did I know that this path would lead me to incredible ventures with Maternal Aid Association (Maa) πΊπ©ββοΈ
My story started at Barts and The London SMD, where, amidst the bustling streets of Whitechapel, the heart of London's largest Bangladeshi community, we launched the Barts and The London Students'β Association (BLSA)'s first-ever Bangladesh Society.
Dr Aqil Jaigirdar's poignant experience of witnessing a mother's tragic loss due to post-C-section bleeding in Bangladesh shook us. It's a stark reminder of the harrowing disparities in healthcare systems around the world, leaving many mothers without adequate support during one of the most critical phases of their lives.
Armed with buckets and bake sales, Maa Month in February became a turning point in my advocacy. With an unwavering commitment to raising funds for the cause, I immersed myself in creating captivating social media content. It was an honour to be recognised at the Maa Gala in March, and awarded for the Best Media Content β a testament to our collective efforts poured into amplifying this crucial cause. π²π
Joining the committee as a content creator opened new doors - crafting compelling reels and presently editing the flagship video, I've witnessed the group's awe-inspiring journey of a lifetime when visiting the health camps in rural Bangladesh last year. Their stories, passion and dedication have been nothing short of inspiring. π₯β¨
The opportunity to volunteer for such a monumental project unifies with my desire to support mothers in Bangladesh. This chance to return to my roots while making a meaningful impact on maternal care is a divine alignment that I hope to seize. ππ€
This experience is not just about personal growth; it's a global collaboration. It's about transcending the realms of being a future doctor to being a catalyst for change in the world. Together, we're not just scripting a narrative; we're actively creating a world where every mother feels supported, empowered, and cared for during one of life's most profound experiences. ππΆπ€°
I would love for you all to join me on this journey - your contribution is not just a gift; it's a cornerstone for a brighter future for mothers everywhere. Together, let's be a part of a movement that doesn't just dream of a better world but actively shapes it. πππ

According to the World Health Organisation, women in Bangladesh are 21 times more likely to die from maternal causes compared to the UK.
Maa is a grassroots charity striving to improve the dire situation in resource-poor settings to bring about safe, effective, high-quality maternal health care.
To facilitate JourneyMaa, we have established strong links with local universities, medical professionals and healthcare students to provide long-term sustainable maternal care in rural areas of Bangladesh.
JourneyMaa offers UK students and young professionals the opportunity to travel to Bangladesh to:
- Provide educational workshops for mothers and local communities on safe delivery and maternal healthcare
- Oversee the essential life-saving work done at Maas Maternal Health Clinics
- Gain first-hand clinical experience of maternal care in urban and rural resource-poor settings
Money raised will go towards facilitating the Maa health camps that are run as part of JourneyMaa 2024.
You can help us change the lives of countless mothers. Please support our ground-breaking work!
