It's hard to believe, but singer/songwriter MIKA turns 41 on 18th August 2024.

To celebrate the occasion, Mika Fan Club is planning to make a group donation via this JustGiving page to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), as we have done for a number of years.

For the 12th consecutive year, global forced displacement has increased to reach historic new levels. As of May 2024, more than 120 million people have been forced to flee from persecution, conflict, violence and human rights violations -- that's roughly 1 person in every 69 globally.

Despite these alarming trends, UNHCR continues to work toward finding sustainable solutions, while helping to give refugees the shelter, protection and safety they urgently need. Whether refugee and displaced families are uprooted for weeks, months or years, UNHCR remains long after the headlines disappear – providing lifesaving aid, shelter, cash assistance to meet household needs, access to education and livelihood training.

Over the years, Mika has supported the UNHCR's efforts to protect the rights of refugees and to provide assistance to those who have been forcibly displaced. In December 2015, Mika visited Lebanon to see the plight of Syrian refugees in that country first-hand, and in November 2017 Mika was the featured speaker at a UNHCR fundraising gala in Milan.

The international fan community of Mika Fan Club, which, like the UNHCR transcends country borders, has taken Mika's cause to heart. Over the past several years, the MFC has raised more than €27,000 for UNHCR and worked to increase awareness of the organization's efforts.
