I am taking part with Team Heron in a Sponsored Cycle Ride fundraiser organised by Mendip Friends of Palestine in aid of the Gaza Sunbirds, Paralympic Cyclists. Please support my fundraiser or join Team Heron on this beautiful 45 kilometre circuit on the Somerset Levels. The ride begins and ends at the Market Place in the Cathedral City of Wells. It is will take approximately 4 hours with a pit stop in Glastonbury for lunch/refreshments. It is a flat circuit on quiet roads and includes riding through the Nature Reserves of Shapwick Heath and Ham Wall.

After his leg was shattered, along with his dreams, by an exploding Israeli bullet during the 2019 Great March of Return, the Olympic hopeful Alaa al-Dali set up an amputee cycling team, the Gaza Sunbirds. Since the 7th October 2023 and the subsequent Israeli bombardments of Gaza, the team has devoted its time to cycling one-legged round their homeland, distributing food and providing shelter.

We are cycling on the Somerset Levels in Solidarity with the people of Gaza and Palestine.

We are cycling to raise funds for the heroic Gaza Sunbirds and to raise awareness of the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian People.
