Story
I am cycling Hadrian's Cycleway, which runs from the Roman Bath House at Ravenglass on the west coast of Cumbria to South Shields on the east coast. This will be my third long-distance cycle ride, covering 174 miles over three days.
I am training hard, although I have to admit I'm finding it challenging to build up the miles. Even so, I'm determined to complete each day with a smile.
I am taking on this challenge to raise money and awareness for an incredible charity, The Bungalow Partnership in Middlesbrough—a charity that has become very important to me following the tragic loss of my daughter.
My beloved daughter, Morag, was diagnosed with breast cancer at just 19 years of age and underwent a mastectomy and extensive treatment. Against the odds, she went on to have two wonderful children.
However, during 2024, Morag's health began to deteriorate. In December, doctors discovered tumours in her lungs, spine and more than 25 tumours on her brain. The most heart breaking words were spoken by the consultant: "I stopped counting when I got to 25..."
True to her fighting spirit, Morag underwent brain surgery determined to battle cancer once again. Tragically, during her recovery she suffered a catastrophic bleed on the brain. The doctors did everything they could, but they were unable to save our beloved Morag. She died in January 2025, leaving behind her two adored children, who never had the chance to say goodbye.
Since losing their mum, Morag's children have been receiving invaluable support from The Bungalow Partnership to help them process their grief. The care, compassion and guidance they continue to receive has made an incredible difference during such a confusing and heart breaking time.
Please help me raise as much as possible so that The Bungalow Partnership can continue to provide this vital support to other children and families facing the heartbreak of bereavement and other issues.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story.
Throughout every mile of this ride, I will remember Morag's extraordinary courage, strength and determination.
