Our innovative building redevelopment, The Ragged Project, will deliver a church, a flexible, facilitated community hub, and affordable supported housing for 33 young people who are homeless or have severe housing need.

Story

20 years ago I moved to Sheffield and went on to live there for six fantastic years.

The Simon Armitage poem you see as you walk up from the station calls it 'The city where your dreaming is repaid', and that was definitely my experience. So many of the good things in my life started in Sheffield, and it was a special time, and that's on top of my late mum's origins in the city, and the summers as a kid spent visiting Grandad in the 90s. Magic.

What better way to say hello and thanks to the city than spending a couple of hours running up Eccy Road, out into the Peaks, and back in to the City Centre, along with thousands of other runners? I can't think of one.

Here's what I'm running for - in the equally amazing part of the world I live in now:

The Deptford Ragged Trust offers a place of refuge, learning, worship and community to local people in South East London.

We are continuing the work of one of London’s first ragged schools started by eight Christian men and women in 1844. The legacy is about creating community and addressing the impact of poverty on people's lives.

Our innovative building redevelopment, The Ragged Project, will deliver a community hub and socially affordable, supported housing for young people.

The Deptford Ragged Truest is the charitable trust of the church I go to, The Bear Church, Deptford.
