Sands supports anyone affected by the death of a baby, works in partnership with health professionals to try to ensure that bereaved parents and families receive the best possible care and funds research that could help to reduce the numbers of babies dying and families devastated by this tragedy.

Story

I am running the Manchester marathon on Sunday 27th April 2025 in honour of my nephew Oiríon Casey Holden. ✨

Oiríon was born extremely prematurely at 24 weeks on Monday 29th July 2024 6:03am.

My sister, her partner and our parents were able to spend the day with him and witnessed his fighting spirit!

Oiríon passed away later that night in his dad’s arms, the infection was too far gone. Unfortunately premature labour due to undetected and fast paced infections are quite common.

As a family Oiríon is thought about and loved every single day. We continue to talk about him and tell his story in a positive way. For someone who was here for such a short time he impacted us all.

We will be forever grateful for everything Oiríon has and continues to teach us. That fighting spirit and strong heart will bring all who loved him the strength to carry on.

All proceeds of my fundraising will go to SANDS,(stillbirth and neonatal death society ). As well as supporting bereaved families and healthcare professionals; Sands supports and promotes research to better understand the causes of baby deaths, improve maternity safety and save babies’ lives. The charity also raises awareness of baby loss and works with governments, key influencers and other stakeholders to make reducing the number of babies dying a priority nationally and locally.

Thank you for any donation small or large. We hope we can help other families who find themselves in this horrible situation. Thank you, Oiríons little stars ✨👼
