Story
Hello!
I wanted to share some news that's close to my heart. As many of you know, my incredible Mum has been through more challenges than most people could imagine over the last decade. She's faced and conquered a stroke, battled breast cancer and now - she's facing the unimaginable challenge of untreatable lung cancer.
Due to her stroke, she is severely restricted in her day-to-day life – she requires 24/7 care, in a wheelchair – with no mobility and cannot talk. Despite these issues, she does still have her independence, can communicate via expression and an iPad, she is mobile in her electric wheelchair, enjoys eating out and most of all, enjoys spending quality time with her beautiful Granddaughter (my Niece) - Olivia – who really brightens up all of our lives. My brother and I are her Power of Attorney – we manage her life end to end and would have it no other way.
Her strength and courage have always amazed me. She's shown me, my brother and our wider family what it truly means to fight, to never give up, and to embrace life with unwavering determination. I can't put into words how proud I am of her and how much she inspires me and everyone around her every single day.
In honour of my mum's indomitable spirit, I've made a decision. I've decided to run the London Marathon, not only as a personal challenge but as a tribute to her resilience. If she can navigate through these stormy waters and still find the light, then I can certainly push myself to complete this marathon – even with a terrible pair of knees!
My mum was diagnosed in August 2023, with untreatable Lung Cancer – therefore I have pledged to run the London Marathon for an amazing charity that supports such a terrible disease –#TeamBreathe - Asthma & Lung UK – asthmaandlung.org.uk
In parallel to this, my brother and I will not accept the fact nothing can be done for my Mum, so in the meantime we are exploring all options of treatment, including 2nd opinions, foreign treatment, amongst other avenues.
This journey won't just be about physical endurance; it's about the strength of the human spirit and the power of love and support. I know that every step I take will be a reminder of my mum's unwavering determination and a testament to the fact that nothing is impossible when we have the will to keep moving forward.
I'm sharing this with all of you because you've been a part of my life's journey, and your encouragement means the world to me. As I embark on this marathon training, I would be incredibly grateful for your support in any way you can offer – whether it's through words of encouragement, cheering me on, or even contributing to this amazing cause that I have decided to raise money for.
I'll be sharing updates along the way, and I can't wait to cross that finish line with my mum in my heart and all of you by my side.
Thank you for being a part of this journey with me. Let's make every step count!
Mike Convery
