Story
As many of you will know, my brother-in-law, Ben Gregory had a near deadly cycling accident 3 years ago, caused by a reckless driver. Prior to Ben's accident he had represented both Wales & Great Britain in his sport of choice, Decathlon.
Ben's injuries were extensive and the initial prognosis, with a GCS of 3 was that Ben would be highly unlikely to walk again and may never be able to function independently. Against the odds, Ben first sat up, then stood, then walked and can even manage a run. Finding motivation has been a challenge for Ben, his memory places him as one of the top athletes on the global stage but his body fights back against everyday tasks.
Ben (and in all honesty, I) were incredibly lucky to be introduced to AGS through a close friend, Jamie. Jamie, alongside AGS, a veteran run charity, brings together individuals who have experienced life changing injuries, from both civilian & military backgrounds. The aim to encourage and teach beneficiaries to overcome their injuries through challenges & expeditions, at the same time creating a close knit community & support network.
Up next is the Alps challenge, our 4th adventure with Ben, this time spread over 4 days involving; ice climbing, crevasse rescues and finally a summit around Mont Blanc (exact peak to be confirmed based on conditions). This is a huge task for Ben, but one he has been training for almost everyday with the support of his close friends and family.
AGS is a small charity, with all proceeds going directly to beneficiaries with no waste from layers of management or employees. Without the support of generous individuals AGS could not continue their amazing work.
