Medical Detection Dogs trains dogs to detect the odour of human disease with the aim of developing faster, more efficient and less invasive diagnostics that lead to better patient outcomes.
There is increasing evidence that in the same way that Dogs have an ability to smell a different spectrum of proteins and substance (in much the same way that they hear different range of sounds to humans). This enables a new range of diagnostic and therapeutic options to be explored.
This charity is in the forefront of the fight against cancer and other life-threatening diseases, including Parkinson’s disease, Covid, malaria and bacterial infections. Their Bio Detection Dogs are trained to find the odour of those diseases in samples such as urine, breath and sweat and their work has the potential to benefit millions.
