Story
Firstly, a quick introduction...
My daughter Megan has a rare genetics deficiency known as Malan Syndrome. Megan has spent her school years mostly in supported education where activities and sport in particular are an important part of life for children with disability.
Megan attended Park Community Academy before attending Woodlands School, the two schools being next to each other in Blackpool.
Wooden Spoon charity has played an important part in supporting children at Park Academy through a £25,000 donation towards the new Pirate Ship play area for the children. Providing facilities such as the Pirate Ship and other projects for children across Blackpool and Nationally are why it's important to raise funds to support future projects for our children.
It was brilliant to see the children of Woodlands School and Park Community Academy attend last years Wooden Spoon charity lunch to celebrate the opening of the Pirate Ship play area.
Me personally, I'll be 54 when I run London Marathon and I'm setting myself an ambitious target to be sub 3:45 hours. Hopefully the pressure of sponsorship will see me through the dark, wet and cold mornings as most of my training will be through the Winter months.
About Wooden Spoon...
Wooden Spoon is the children’s charity of rugby, funding life-changing projects across the UK and Ireland to support children and young people with disabilities or facing disadvantage.
Research shows that 1 in 10 children in the UK and Ireland have a disability and there are 3.5 million children in the UK living in poverty. These numbers continue to rise and more and more children need our help.
Our vision is that through the power of rugby, every child and young person has access to the same opportunities.
Please dig deep and help fund important projects that benefit our children and communities throughout the UK.
