Michael's fundraiser for RAGGIEPAWS RAGDOLL RESCUE & REHOME

Michael Durham is raising money for RAGGIEPAWS RAGDOLL RESCUE & REHOME

Liverpool Cathedral Abseil · 26 July 2025

We are friends, Claudia, Helen & Sacha who share the same love and passion for the beautiful Ragdoll. A lot of you will already know Claudia or certainly recognise her in association with Ragdolls. For anyone that doesn’t, Claudia has a wealth of experience and knowledge around the breed from the show bench, welfare, grooming and kitten care. She also has years experience in fundraising so all that knowledge combined we know we can make a huge difference to the cats that need us. She is already working hard behind the scenes to raise money. In comparison, Helen is quite new to the world of Ragdolls but her passion and love for the breed is certainly there to be seen in equal measures. We wanted to give something back to the breed so what better way than to genuinely help those that, through no fault of their own, find themselves needing extra care or a new home. The welfare of both our own cats and any that need our help will always be our priority. **As we start to build funds our intention is to apply to become a registered charity. Any monies coming into the Rescue will be re-invested to help more cats** **November 2024 - We have been approved as a Registered Charity, Charity No. 1211132.

Story

Who are RaggiePaws?

RaggiePaws is a registered charity supporting ragdoll cats throughout the UK by a group of volunteers. Their aim is simple – give back to the breed by supporting those that, through no fault of their own, find themselves needing extra care or a new home.

Here's a recent example - Fletcher

Fletcher was surrendered to RaggiePaws via the RSPCA who had been called to a property with many cats needing assistance. For many years, Fletcher had been kept in a rabbit hutch in far from ideal conditions. Due to the amount of cats and only so many resources, the lovely RSPCA asked for breed specialist charities to help them foster and nurture the rescues – without any hesitation, RaggiePaws volunteered (along with several of their peers) and Fletcher was rescued.

His time in the rabbit hutch was miserable. He had limited space to move about, developing associated behaviours and presenting with a wobbly head and twirling habit. His condition was poor and he was in need of careful care to cure a nasty ear infection and to nurse him back to health. He underwent an MRI scan to ensure that the twirling wasn’t caused by anything neurologically damaged – great to report that it is not, it’s purely learnt behaviour from being cooped up - and is now a floofy, charismatic and loving little chap. With ongoing rehabilitation, he's about to be rehomed.

Our Cat Loving Victim

Mike Durham isn’t a big fan of heights. In fact he’s much more of a keep both feet firmly on the ground sort of chap, an unassuming, gently aging individual. Once upon a time, he was an intrepid adventurer but now he’s more likely to go to a Rick Astley concert than jump out of a plane. Cat Dad to three and Foster Dad to all, Mike is happy to allotment, eat pizza and watch telly. Bonus points if the Other ‘Alf is ignoring him/not nagging him/out with her mother. He’s deaf, has questionable musical taste and, according to said Other ‘Alf, is a ‘messy annoyance’. And this is why he has been volunteered (with no coercion whatsoever) to abseil off a ridiculously high building for charity. Oh, and he isn’t keen on heights – did we mention that?

Volunteering his father, Notadog (Blue Raggy, 3) explained, ‘It’s his own fault. He’s stingy with the bedtime Dreamie rations and shut the bathroom door on us last week!’

His brother T’Otherone agrees, ‘If he took up less bed, we’d be less inclined to support Main Hooman in her quest to send him up the cathedral. We’ve checked the life insurance policy just in case.’

Less forceful in support is his third child, Loki the Adventure Floof (Red point Raggy, 3), ‘He has thumbs but they won’t help his fear!’.

If you would like to support Mike the Foster Floof Dad in his quest to abseil down Liverpool Cathedral and raise money for RaggiePaws, or if you simply want to hear a grown man screaming apologies for not giving his cats enough treats, please add to his JustGiving page
