LCL Bike ride · 6 July 2025

The aim of SPACE is to provide a local, fun, safe and accessible environment in which children with additional needs can play whilst supporting the whole family. In February 2020 we opened a Fully accessible centre with a sensory room & soft play so that we can support more families.

Story

My son Leon, who has autism. Loves his regular visits to SPACE.

SPACE supports children with additional needs and their families by providing fully accessible support and facilities. There centre, members, volunteers and staff provide the perfect place for family's like ours and Leon enjoys every visit.

This place is close to our heart and many other local families.

On the 6th July, Myself along with Friends Gary, Joe and Matthew will be doing the 100mile Liverpool Chester Liverpool Bike ride.

More about SPACE:

SPACE was founded in 2014 by a group of parents of children with additional needs that were frustrated by the lack of appropriate play resources and support locally. And so, we decided to do something about it.

We began by running play sessions in hired community rooms for over 4 years. The need for our service was much greater than we were able to satisfy, and our sessions were often at risk of overcapacity. In October 2018 we took on our own premises in Chester. After a very busy period of building work and a refit, we opened in February 2020.

Our centre includes a large fully accessible, 2 storey play frame and soft play area, Ellie’s Room; a fully fitted and padded sensory room, a versatile activity room, and a changing place (with hoist).

Our new centre provides us with the opportunity to grow, to reach more families and to provide facilities for many more children.

We are governed by a team of 6 trustees that between them bring experience of disability, HR, law, education, marketing, accountancy and auditing, disability project delivery and learning and development. We have a part time staff team of 3, a Charity Manager and 2 Project Co-ordinators. In addition, we are supported by a fantastic team of volunteers that give up their time to assist at play sessions and at fundraising events.
