When we started Manchester Baroque, with our first concert in February 2019, it was a goal to perform a Passion every Easter and a dream to be able to perform Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. Possibly my favourite piece of music, it is unquestionably one of the very greatest in the western tradition. It is demanding of listeners, performers and bank balances.

That is why the closing collection at the end our our performance on Good Friday 2024 is important: to support our work, enabling us to perform this majestic piece of work tonight, hopefully again soon, as well as everything else we do.
