First Ever Marathon

London Marathon 2024 · 21 April 2024 ·
**UPDATE
The training was progressing well up to Week 7 (see Strava below) and I was on target. Unfortunately in mid-February I fell ill, developing double vision. Upon investigation, after numerous tests and procedures, it was found to be the result of a tumour in my skull bone. The nature and treatment is still being discussed. Throughout this time I have been unable to continue the marathon training. However, I am determined to complete the marathon and raise money for this incredible charity, Brain Research UK. **
I am thrilled to share that I've taken on the incredible challenge of running my very first marathon (and my first organised race outside of the odd park run!), and I'm doing it for a cause that's close to my heart. I've chosen to raise funds for Brain Research UK. My Grandpa developed Parkinson's disease alongside Alzheimer's and sadly succumbed to these when I was just 6 months old. I only ever met him in hospital, but I bear the honour of being named after him and hope to pay tribute to his memory through this event. You can see the family resemblance in this photo from 1969 above, with my Grandpa in the middle (60) my Dad on the left (20s), and me at around the same age on the right.
Neurological conditions can have a profound impact on individuals and their families, and I'm determined to make a difference. By supporting my marathon journey, you'll be contributing to vital research that has the potential to change lives. Every donation, no matter the size, will help fund research that brings us one step closer to finding cures and improving the quality of life for those affected.
Any donations towards this cause would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mike
