On 20th September 2025, Mike Stafford and Chris Perkins will embark on a 7 day 'drive of discovery' from St. Austell in Cornwall to Vienna. This will be the first time that this 'highly professional' crew will have operated together in over 36 years, what could possible go wrong! Their 'kite' on this occasion will be a slightly used Toyota MX-5 that Perky has welded up and got through an MOT.

We will be participating in a 'Banger Rally' that encourages each team to raise money for a chosen charity. For our team that will be HEART LINK, which is a charity close to the Stafford family's heart; excuse the pun. HEART LINK is a long standing charity based in Leicester within the East Midlands Children's Heart Care Association. Stirling Stafford spent a lot of his young life under the care of the amazing paediatric heart consultants, surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and support staff within the Children's Cardiac Surgery Unit which was then based at the Glenfield Hospital in Leicester; it moved to Leicester Royal Infirmary in 2021. HEART LINK provided support to all paediatric heart activities which included supporting the parents and siblings of the babies and children within the Cardiac Unit. Mike and Pia will be forever grateful for the support they, and their young family, received through what was a very traumatic and stressful time. Stirling has grown up into a successful 26 year old young man and now comes under the remit of the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Clinic, which remains at the Glenfield Hospital and is also supported by HEART LINK; their aim to provide support to patients as they move into adulthood. Perhaps an indication of how just how successful this paediatric, and young adult heart care has been is that the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Clinic now has more patients than there are baby and young child patients.....AND THAT, IS A REALLY GOOD THING.
