Story
Hi guys,
On September 28th I will be taking part in a charity abseil at the White Collar Factory Building in Old Street, along with 5 colleagues within the adolescent medicine division at UCLH. We have decided to take part in order to raise money for our adolescent ward - T12 South.
T12 South at UCLH is an acute ward that was designed specifically for adolescents. This is one of a very limited amount of adolescent specific wards in London hospitals, as most teenagers are admitted to either children's wards or adult wards, which are not always equipped to provide age appropriate interventions.
The ward was set up with young people in mind with all the professionals having been trained in adolescent medicine and rehabilitation. The unit has a designated recreation room and an 'Outstanding' Oftsed rated learning space for young people to be supported with their education while they are on the unit (and are encouraged to engage in non-academic learning). We are also lucky enough to employ activity co-ordinators who help to organise creative activities for young people, in addition to play therapists, mental health support workers and therapy dogs who come and visit all the young people on the unit.
As with most hospitals, UCLH has seen a rise in the number of admissions for young people in mental health crisis and I am raising this money with those young people in mind. There is so much more we could implement for these young people and this is a great way to start.
We would truly appreciate any amount you can spare. And you are of course welcome to come and watch us hopefully not plummet to our demises on September 28th.
Please share with your friends, family and colleagues and spread the word.
Thank you for your support.
