For the last year of her life my mum was cared for at Bagatelle Nursing Home, which is ran by the Greenock Medical Aid Society.

GMAS has a long history in Greenock, having been founded in 1798, and continues to provide care and support to older people in their two nursing homes.

My mum started her working life looking after older people in Greenock before training to be a nurse and working around the UK and Ireland. As a nurse and then a midwife, caring for people and fighting for decency and dignity for people who needed care was a big part of who she was.

The nurses and carers at Bagatelle were exceptional and went above and beyond to give my mum the best care. We were lucky to get her back to the home before she passed away where she was surrounded by family, but also staff who had become part of her life in the past year.

I'm hoping that the proceeds of this fundraiser can be used to enhance the experience for the staff and the people they care for at Bagatelle.
