Everest Summit Expedition for Deaf Children’s Support

Michael Woods is raising money for The National Deaf Children's Society

Mount Everest Summit Expedition 2026 · 1 April 2026

We’re here for deaf children and everyone who cares about them. We empower families to connect and drive change in their communities, and we campaign to make sure deaf children get the support they need. We lead the way, sharing insight and knowledge in the UK and internationally.

Story

Michael’s Story

I’m fundraising for the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) as part of my Everest 2026 climb. As a profoundly Deaf person and a parent, this charity means a lot to me. They have supported my son Joseph from the very beginning.

NDCS have been there for our family every step of the way, helping us fight for his right to full support at school, including communication support and interpreters. We have now successfully secured full-time support for him. Without NDCS, I honestly don’t think we could have done it. Anyone who has dealt with the council knows how difficult it can be when support that Deaf children rely on for their education and future is at risk.

In 2026, I will attempt to climb Mount Everest (8,848m), the highest mountain in the world. I may become the first Deaf British person to reach the summit. Everest is one of the toughest challenges on the planet, and I’m taking it on to show my children that nothing is impossible. I want them to grow up believing they can achieve their dreams, no matter how big they are.

I’m using this climb to raise money for NDCS so they can continue supporting thousands of Deaf children and families who need the same help we received.

How your donation can help:

£20 could help a family who has just found out their baby is Deaf get free confidential support from the helpline.

£50 could support online workshops so families can learn more about deafness and connect with other parents.

£100 could help fund a sign language course for parents and families.

Thank you for supporting this cause and being part of my Everest journey.
