I’m running The Big Half Marathon 2026 for the most remarkable person in my life, Luca. As his nanny for the past eight years, I have had the privilege of watching him grow into an incredibly kind, intelligent, and inspiring child. Three years ago, our lives took a challenging turn when Luca was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a devastating muscle-wasting disease.

Duchenne UK, the charity I'm supporting, was founded by families impacted by this condition and has become one of the leading DMD charities in the UK. It provides vital support, research, and hope for children and families facing this battle. Despite the challenges posed by his diagnosis, Luca has shown so much bravery. He’s faced countless hospital appointments and blood tests with courage that astounds me.

One of my proudest moments was when Luca confidently delivered a presentation about Duchenne to his classmates, inspiring them to understand and support him. They rallied around him, asking questions and offering their help, showcasing the incredible community we have.

Luca's resilience motivates me every day. Even after injuring my back last year and managing sickle cell trait, which complicates my exercise, I’m determined to run this marathon. If Luca can embrace his challenges with such strength, then so can I.
