Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Before I go into any detail, I would just like to open this invitation up to anyone; have you a tale to tell then, please feel free to join David on his journey for a few miles and help pass his day by chatting the miles away.

As a lot of you will know the journey Chiara has been through has been long and challenging. To date Chiara has went through, 2 bone marrow transplants, bilateral hip reconstruction, 2 x spinal fusion, C1&C2 neck fusion, 2 x 8 plates inserted and removed from her knees, carpal tunnel surgery and this is just a few. She was born deaf but began hearing at 18months. She has ADHD and learning difficulties however we could not be more proud of our girl.

One of the charities who provided respite for Chiara and her family was Calum’s cabin. This year David Levin, a friend of Chiara ‘s papa inspired by her decided to take on the challenge of walking 81 miles for his 81st birthday. This walk will take place over the aim of 10 days but if it takes him 10 weeks David will finish. He will be taking rest at night in different Bield Retirement properties throughout the areas. It is the hope throughout his journey members of Chiara’s family including Chiara will join him and provide support.

in David’s words

“Harry told me some inspirational anecdotes about the brave sweetheart, Chiara, and I am honoured to walk under her banner.

Thanks in advance for whatever support you can give. David.”

As a family we could not be more grateful to David who has been given insight into Calum’s cabin where memories are made to last a life time.

For those of you who don't know Princess Chiara, she is 13 years old and was diagnosed at 8 months with the life limiting condition MPS1 H (Hurlers) www.chiarafox.blogspot.com

Mucopolysaccharidoses are a group of metabolic disorders caused by the absence or malfunctioning of lysosomal enzymes needed to break down molecules called glycosaminoglycans - long chains of sugar carbohydrates in each of our cells that help build bone, cartilage, tendons, corneas, skin and connective tissue. Glycosaminoglycans (formerly called mucopolysaccharides) are also found in the fluid that lubricates our joints. People with a mucopolysaccharidosis disease either do not produce enough of one of the 11 enzymes required to break down these sugar chains into simpler molecules, or they produce enzymes that do not work properly. Over time, these glycosaminoglycans collect in the cells, blood and connective tissues. The result is permanent, progressive cellular damage which affects appearance, physical abilities, organ and system functioning, and, in most cases, mental development.
