Thanks for your interest in supporting the 2025 Autism Superhero 5K!
Rylie wasn’t officially diagnosed with Autism until two months ago. It was a long, expensive journey to get to this point.
It took 3 IEP meetings, 3 diagnoses, and 12 incident reports to finally get her on an IEP. It took her almost getting kicked out of daycare to make things happen.
When your child is “high functioning,” it can be an exhausting battle to get the services they need. We are fortunate that Rylie is finally exactly where she needs to be, with teachers who love and understand her, and who support her in ways that allow her to grow and shine 🙏 🌟
We went back and forth about labeling her, and sharing, but ultimately her Autism diagnosis opened doors and allowed us to better meet her needs. And before we got that “label” (which helped us to truly understand more about her) she was starting to get labels that we definitely didn’t want for her.
The last time I added it up, we had spent $1365 on OT, $1098 on a child psychologist, $1190 on Speech, and $3500 on a neuropsych and school observation. None of these things were covered by insurance.
I am still learning so much about autism, girls in particular, and I am so grateful for all of the moms I have connected with along the way. We are an unstoppable community 🩵♾️🌈
