💛 Footprints 👣 – A Midwife’s Journey to The Footprints Family
The Footprints Family is a charity incredibly close to my heart ❤️
Founded by the inspiring Kerry Watson, this journey began after she volunteered in Kenya in 2008. Deeply moved by the challenges faced by vulnerable children and families, she returned home with a vision—to create a safe place where children could be cared for, educated, and given hope for a better future.
In 2010, that vision became reality. Starting with just one acre of land, and through sheer determination, dedication, and the support of family, friends, and volunteers, Kerry began building what is now an incredible home, school, and growing community.
Today, The Footprints Family continues to expand, supporting children, mothers, and families in a rural area where access to healthcare is extremely limited and often unaffordable. The nearest hospital is around three hours away, and staff are sometimes faced with caring for women in labour and sick babies with very little training or equipment.
This September, I have the privilege of travelling to Kenya for 3 weeks to volunteer as a midwife. I will be working alongside the team to provide hands-on support and basic training, including antenatal and postnatal care, women’s health, recognising complications, and essential first aid.
Following my visit, we are also hoping to set up ongoing virtual support to continue helping staff build confidence and knowledge in caring for mothers and babies safely.
This is more than just a trip—it’s about being part of something truly life-changing and supporting a project that has grown from one woman’s vision into a community that is transforming lives every single day.
✨ Your support can make a real difference:
• £2 can provide a warm, nutritious porridge for a month
• £5 can provide basic meals for a child for a month
• £10 can support a child’s education for a month
• £25 can help feed a family
Every donation, no matter how small, goes directly towards supporting the children, families, and staff at Footprints.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and for any support you can give—it truly means the world 🩷
