Story
Welcome to my fundraising page for the Sick Children’s Trust.
At the age of 56 (well, I will be 57!) I am running in my first ever London Marathon having only taken up running a couple of years ago.
I am raising money for the Sick Children's Trust, a charity close to my family's hearts.
Please take a minute to read our story below.
I know times are tough for everyone, but any donations are truly appreciated.
When our daughter Grace, at the age of 5, needed open heart surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital 13 years ago, our world was turned upside down. Alongside the fear of the operation, we were also trying to care for our three-year-old at home and hold ourselves together as a family.
During that incredibly difficult time, The Sick Children’s Trust gave us something we didn’t even realise we needed so desperately—a place to stay, just moments from the hospital.
Being close to our daughter meant everything. It allowed us to be there early in the morning and late at night, to sit by her side as she recovered, and to never feel too far away during the most frightening time of our lives. In those uncertain days, having a warm, welcoming place to return to provided comfort, stability, and a small sense of normality.
It may sound simple, but having somewhere to stay removed a huge burden. We didn’t have to worry about long journeys, logistics, or finding somewhere affordable—we could focus entirely on what mattered most: being there for our daughter.
We will never forget the kindness and support we experienced. At a time when everything felt overwhelming, The Sick Children’s Trust made an unimaginable situation just that little bit more bearable.
Today, that brave little five-year-old is now a strong, beautiful young woman. She’s in her A Level year, planning her future, thinking about university and travelling the world. She wears her battle scars with pride—a quiet reminder of everything she has overcome, and a story of strength.
Supporting The Sick Children’s Trust means helping other families stay close to their seriously ill children when it matters most—and I know firsthand just how important that is.
Please sponsor me and help this little known but very worthy charity
Thank you!
Mike
