Done - 50km for Ripple Suicide Prevention and we passed £1,000!

50km of the Thames Path, done. I'm still not entirely sure how. The knees I'd worried about held up fine. My feet and hips, on the other hand, have plenty to say on the matter.

My aches and pains will fade in a week or two. Ripple's work won't. Every pound you gave goes towards a tool that steps in for people at their lowest, quietly and privately, before they reach crisis. That keeps going long after I've hung up my walking boots.

Why Ripple Suicide Prevention?

Most charities help people after a crisis. Ripple tries to catch it a moment before.

Ripple was set up in 2021 by Alice Hendy after she lost her brother Josh to suicide. She found he'd been searching online for harmful content in the weeks before he died. That's the gap Ripple closes. Its free browser tool spots searches linked to self-harm and suicide, then interrupts them with a message of hope and links to real support: helplines, text lines and web chats, open 24/7. It does this without recording anyone's searches or data. Complete privacy, at the exact moment it matters.

Ofcom has warned repeatedly that content glorifying self-injury is widely available through ordinary search engines, often just a single click away. Ripple sits on that click. So far the technology has stepped in on more than 100,000 harmful searches and protects around 1.9 million people across 50 countries. It's free for individuals, schools and charities, with no contract and no catch.

At 60, I've watched mental health go from something nobody talked about to something we can't afford to ignore. A cause that reaches people quietly, privately, right when they're most at risk, is one I'm glad to put my dodgy knees on the line for.
