Leeds Running Festival Half Marathon · 20 April 2025

We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

As many of you know last year I was diagnosed with tongue cancer and have had surgery and radiotherapy, both of which I am still recovering from. As you can see below, I am not alone.

I usually try and raise money for research in to brain disease, but my local running club very kindly decided to do their bit to try and raise funds for cancer research, also a very worthwhile cause. I will be running a half marathon, a distance that I have run previously (prior to my diagnosis and treatment), but currently I am building back up to try and achieve that distance. Below is the post from my club.

Bardsey and East Keswick Running Club (and friends!) are running Roundhay Running Festival to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Three of our brilliant runners are currently undergoing treatment for cancer. We are all behind them with this tough journey and we want to support them battling this horrible disease. Please give what you can - cancer affects so many of our families and friends so let’s beat it together.
