I’m running the Great North Run this September. It’s all been a bit last minute, as I was fortunate enough to get a late entry, but it feels like the right time to do it.

Over the last three years, I’ve watched some amazing people do some amazing things to raise money for Breast Cancer Now in memory of Elizabeth. This year, I decided it was my turn.

The truth is, two years ago there is absolutely no way I could even have contemplated running a half marathon. But I’ve spent the last 18 months trying to sort myself out, getting fitter and healthier, and somehow here I am, about to run 13.1 miles!

So there’s a very personal side to this for me. I’m doing it for myself and for the boys, but most importantly I’m doing it for Elizabeth, for Breast Cancer Now, and for every family going through what we went through.

Most people reading this will already know our story and why this charity means so much to us. Breast Cancer Now are doing incredible work to improve treatments and ultimately find a cure for secondary breast cancer. I’ve been fortunate enough to see first-hand some of the research being carried out, which has only made me more determined to support the work they’re doing.

I’m also very aware that so many of our friends and family have already been incredibly generous in supporting fundraising in Elizabeth’s memory over the last few years, and I’ll never take that generosity for granted.

But if you can spare anything at all to support me this time, I’d genuinely appreciate every single penny.

I’ll do my best to make the 13.1 miles worth it.
