Mike's and Jake’s fundraiser for The Early Birth Association

Mike Melville-Reed is raising money for The Early Birth Association

South Downs Challenge 2026 · 5 September 2026 ·

The EBA makes a positive difference for babies, families and staff in Neonatal Care at the Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton, and the Special Care Baby Unit at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. We raise funds to purchase equipment for the units to help save more babies lives.

Story

As many of you know my eldest boy Jacob was born on the 14th of December 1999, he was three months premature and weighed 1lb 9oz (less than a bag of sugar).

It was difficult in those early days to look too far into the future, he was diagnosed with chronic lung disease and I remember the consultant saying he would always have it, but it shouldn’t affect him too much but he’ll never run a marathon. We are here 26 years later and Jacob is joining me on a charity walk, which is the equivalent to almost 3 marathons. In those early days we were very grateful to the Early Birth Association ( EBA) who supported us as parents of a premature baby and they also raise funds for the Trevor Mann Baby Unit.

This is a 100k walk and we will be walking through the night

From Eastbourne to Arundel

Please help us to give something back to them by sponsoring us.

Thank you very much for your support, Mike and Jake
