Story
As I reach my 60th birthday it is a poignant time for me as I was diagnosed with a terminal cancer on this day seven years ago. At that moment I felt that I had no hope and was in complete shock expecting to live for only a few months.
I immediately started an aggressive course of Chemotherapy and a few years later went on to receive Immunotherapy, which sadly didn’t prove to be very successful. The treatment triggered pneumonia and diverticulitis which resulted in a major operation to my bowel and a subsequent permanent stoma.
After recovery I received news of a trial drug that could be helpful in targeting my specific type of inoperable cancer Mesothelioma. Considering treatment options are very few for this rare cancer I signed-up and started to receive treatment at Velindre.
Their specialist care and personal touch has given me renewed hope, and another shot at life, as they continue to explore all available treatment avenues.
Velindre, the Hospital of Hope has been providing specialist treatment and supportive care to cancer patients and families for over 65 years.
Money raised for Velindre Charity helps fund ground breaking research and clinical trials, cutting edge treatments, specialist nurses, support services, therapies, equipment and so much more which are above those provided by the NHS – so donations really do have a significant impact on patients and their families.
Your donation will allow Velindre to continue to provide Hope for the future.
