Story

Carina and I have upped the ante a little this time. Following our previous successes with a 3K and two 5K runs for Cancer Research UK in 2022 and 2023, and then a half marathon trek earlier this year (2025), we are this time running the Thorpe Park 10K in September, the London Winter Run 10K in February and then the Surrey Half Marathon in March 2026, all of this in order to continue raising funds for the amazing charity Shooting Star Children's Hospices.

We can't thank you enough for all of your continued support.

Christopher's Shooting Star Children's Hospice in Guildford took excellent care of us and our 10 year old son Harrison when he was diagnosed with an inoperable and terminal brain tumour in July 2024.

Following treatments at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton after a 4 year battle with cancer we were transferred to Shooting Star for his end of life care. Harrison passed away peacefully in his mothers arms on the 21st October 2024.

Christopher’s Shooting Star Children’s Hospice became our home for almost 3 months.

They welcomed us with open arms and big hearts, fed us and took great care of us. Harry was able to receive all the medication and treatments he needed. They made all of us comfortable with outstanding care and compassion. They entertained us, arranged transport and some fun days out when Harry could manage them.

They made it possible for us to be together 24/7 for as long as we needed.

Our care team became family friends. Ellie, Lucy, James, Tanya, Cheryl, Sam, Naomi, Emma, Olivia, Georgia, Helena and many other. They loved Harrison and he loved each and every one of them. We played together, sang together, danced together and took care of Harrison together. He didn’t know it was his last few weeks, but they made it fun for him and gave him his smile every day.

Harrison passed away peacefully in his mothers arms on the 21st October 2024.

When the end came the entire nursing staff paid their respects, those closest to him in the team attended his funeral and finally we cried together.

These people are angels, and they deserve all the help we can give them. They are not Government funded; they are a charity organisation that rely entirely on charity donations.

When the Royal Marsden Hospital could no longer offer treatments it was either Shooting Star or take Harrison home. Thank goodness for Shooting Star at least there we could keep his hope alive.

So please help us to help them to help the children and families that need that help now.

Shooting Star Children's Hospices cares for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families across Surrey and London.

Whether lives are measured in days, weeks, months or years, we are here to make every moment count. We support families from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.
