Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page supporting the MND Association.
Motor Neurone Disease is an incurable and life limiting disease that can happen throughout people's lives. You can learn more about the disease here: https://www.mndassociation.org/about-mnd/mnd-explained/what-is-mnd
I took up running during the pandemic and as many who know me will know it is something that has come to define me and has provided me with a tremendous community. I first started running with a goal of completing the London Marathon for Bliss, the prematurity charity, so marking completing all of the world marathon majors by raising money for an important cause again seems the right conclusion also.
Two members of my running club, Macclesfield Harriers, Brian and Rob, have sadly been diagnosed with MND in the last couple of years. This devastating disease has changed their lives and their families unrecognisably.
When I won a competition to get a place in the Boston Marathon; which will be my last of the original six world marathon majors, and mark my completion of the six star medal - I knew that I needed to dedicate this to the MND Association and raise some much needed funds for their so very important work.
MND is also a condition I sadly see more often than I would like through my work as a neurologist and has also meant that I have seen first hand the excellent work that MND Association supports.
Completing the Boston Marathon just seven weeks after I will complete the Tokyo Marathon will be even more of a challenge than usual, but to do so as a mark of respect to two formidable marathon runners seems very apt in my mind.
