Story
Winston’s Wish is a UK charity that supports children, young people (up to age 25), and families who are grieving the death of someone important in their lives. Winston’s Wish was the UK’s first childhood bereavement charity and provides a wide range of free services including a helpline, one-to-one and group support, online resources, and guidance for schools and professionals to help young people cope with grief in a healthy way. The charity reaches tens of thousands of bereaved children across the UK each year, offering specialist, tailored support to meet each child’s individual needs. Childhood bereavement is more common than many people realise: in the UK, more than 100 children are bereaved of a parent every day—around 41,000 to 46,000 each year—and about 1 in 20 children will experience the death of a parent by the age of 16. These statistics highlight the vital role charities like Winston’s Wish play in ensuring grieving children are not left to cope alone and receive the emotional support they need during one of the most difficult experiences of their lives.
