Our Story
On the 7th June, my husband David and I are taking on the Aberdeen Kiltwalk for Marie Curie; a charity that meant so much to my mum long before she was ever diagnosed. She sponsored a Marie Curie nurse for years, believing deeply in the work they do (to quote her “aye they are angels”). None of us knew then that those same nurses would one day be the people who carried us through the hardest chapter of our lives.
When we cared for Mum at home during her final days, Marie Curie were there in the most human, gentle ways. Their nurses sat with her overnight so we could rest, answered every question with patience, and made sure we never felt alone. When our nurse, Daisy, heard Mum had passed, she sent a message that brought us real comfort. It’s the kind of compassion we’ll never forget.
So we’re walking in Mum’s memory, every step for her and for every family who may need that same kindness, dignity and support.
About Marie Curie
Marie Curie is here for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, they’re with you to the end. They bring 75 years of experience and leading research to the care they give at home, in their hospices and over the phone. And they push for a better end of life for all by campaigning and sharing research to change the system.
Marie Curie is a charity working across the UK and they need your support to do their vital work.
