Campaign by Beat (RCN 801343)
On Wednesday 4th March 2026 our incredible team of trekkers will be taking on the Northern Lights Trek in Iceland to help end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders.

Story

Hi, I’m Millie! I’m raising £3,590 for BEAT, a charity that provides crucial support for people affected by eating disorders, and I’m also embarking on a personal journey - a trek to the Northern Lights. This isn’t just an adventure; it’s a meaningful way to raise awareness for a cause that is incredibly important to me.

The Struggles of Eating Disorders:

Eating disorders are complex, life-threatening conditions that affect millions, impacting every aspect of life far beyond food alone. For many, the struggle remains hidden behind behaviours, with intense feelings of shame, fear, and self-doubt. These conditions have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness, and their toll on both physical and emotional health can be devastating. Yet, recovery is possible, especially with the right support.

What BEAT Does:

BEAT is a lifeline for those dealing with eating disorders, offering crucial services to support both those affected and their loved ones. Here are some of the key ways BEAT makes a difference:

- 24/7 Helplines: BEAT’s helplines offer a safe, confidential space for those struggling and their loved ones to connect with compassionate support.

- Support Groups: They provide online and family support groups, giving people a space to connect and find encouragement from others who understand.

- Self-Help Tools and Resources: BEAT offers guides and tools that help people manage their recovery at home, at any stage of their journey.

- Training for Health Professionals: By training healthcare providers, teachers, and employers, BEAT helps ensure that more people can recognise and respond to eating disorders early on.

- Awareness Campaigns and Advocacy: Through public campaigns and advocacy, BEAT works to break the stigma, improve treatment options, and secure more support for those in need.

Why the Northern Lights Trek?

The Northern Lights have always symbolised hope and beauty to me, something worth striving for even when it feels out of reach. This trek represents not just a physical journey but the emotional journey through the darkness of an eating disorder, toward the light of recovery.

For anyone who has faced an eating disorder, the path to healing can be long and challenging, often filled with setbacks. This trek, with its challenges and rewards, is my way of raising awareness and showing that recovery is worth every effort. Just as BEAT brings light into the lives of those affected by eating disorders, I hope my journey will inspire others to find hope and seek support.
