Story
Whilst I am relatively fit and healthy, running has never been my thing. So a marathon is not something I ever imagined I would want to tackle. However, Inspired by my little sister who ran the 2024 Brighton Marathon for a cancer charity, I have decided to take on the 2025 London Marathon for the The Christie Charity.
Cancer impacts so many lives and I now have some very dear family and friends who are going through treatment. Charities like the Christie are so important to aid recovery and give those with a diagnosis the best possible chance of beating cancer.
In 2009 my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer, and she underwent radiotherapy and chemotherapy at the Christie Hospital, followed a full hysterectomy. In 2011, she went into remission.
Unfortunately, she relapsed in 2013 and was told her cancer was now terminal. Mum underwent a further round of chemo and immune therapy with the Christie. To prevent the cancer spreading elsewhere she also had an double mastectomy.
My mums journey has been a long one, and I can say with great happiness that she is still here today - her cancer, whilst it hasn't gone, is stable and she is undergoing treatment to prolong her life and keep the cancer cells from growing and spreading any further. She is an absolute fighter and one of my biggest inspirations.
The Christie Charity provide enhanced services above what the NHS funds and without the help of the Christie my mum may not still be here, and we cannot thank them enough for the support.
