Story
The Underheugh Ark has become incredibly close to my heart. It is a volunteer-run animal charity on the west coast of Scotland, rescuing and rehoming all kinds of animals, from dogs and cats to horses, hens and many more.
I first connected with the rescue while working at Starbucks. Chris, one of their volunteers, would bring some of the rescue dogs in for pup cups. I would always go outside to meet them, and I loved seeing the dogs and hearing about the difference the rescue was making.
That connection grew even stronger when I saw that LevernBank Kennels was advertising for a kennel assistant. I applied immediately and I got the job! It felt like a turning point in my life. Working with animals every day has been one of the most rewarding and genuinely life-changing experiences I have ever had, and it has made me want to do something meaningful in return for the rescue that helped spark that journey.
This challenge is personal for me too. Outside of work, I often struggle with motivation and can spend too much of my free time in bed. Committing to this challenge will give me a reason to get up, go outside and keep going, even on the hard days. It is more than just a fitness goal. It is a way to push myself while doing something positive for animals who need care, comfort and a second chance.
From 12 September until 31 October, I will be taking on ONE MILLION STEPS IN 50 DAYS.
My usual daily average is around 14,341 steps, and on some of my busiest workdays I can reach nearly 40,000. The real challenge will be staying consistent, especially on my days off. I will need to average 20,000 steps a day to reach my goal, which is around 5,700 extra steps every day. That means making time for extra walks every day for 50 days straight.
My steps at work and walking to and from the kennels will count, along with plenty of additional walks, with my dog Leia joining as my occasionally cooperative mascot! She doesn’t walk when it’s raining… typical Staffie 🤣
The Underheugh Ark receives no government funding and relies entirely on donations. Everyone involved gives their time as a volunteer, meaning the money raised goes directly towards helping the animals in their care.
I am hoping to raise £500 for The Underheugh Ark. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a real difference. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing my page so the challenge can reach more people and help more animals in need.
Thank you for supporting me and the amazing animals of The Underheugh Ark. 🐾
