Story
Over the coming weeks, four members of the Mills Selig team will be lacing up their trainers to take on three iconic marathon events – Paris, London and Belfast – all in support of Women’s Aid Northern Ireland.
First up, Conor Mulligan, Associate in Mills Selig's Construction team, heads to Paris this weekend for his second attempt at the marathon distance, with a personal best firmly in his sights. Following this on Sunday 26 April, Laura Campbell, Associate in our Property team and one of this year’s fortunate London Marathon ballot winners, will take on the marathon distance for the very first time alongside more than 50,000 runners from around the world.
Closer to home, Legal Director, Mark Thompson and Trainee Solicitor, Patrick Martin will both tackle the marathon distance for the first time at the Belfast City Marathon - a significant personal milestone for each of them.
Most importantly, the team are proud to be taking on this challenge in aid of Women’s Aid Northern Ireland, raising vital funds in support of the organisation’s work across the region.
Women’s Aid exists to challenge attitudes, structures and systems which perpetuate domestic abuse. We seek through our work to enable women, children and young people to live free from violence and abuse.
Women's Aid NI work collectively across Northern Ireland to:
- engage with women, children and young people, to give them a voice and ensure they inform all aspects of service development and delivery.
- provide trauma informed support services to women, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse.
- deliver preventative education programmes in schools and community settings to promote healthy non-abusive relationships and share key safeguarding messages.
- educate and inform the public, private, voluntary, statutory and community sectors of the context and impact of domestic abuse.
- provide quality assured education and training to a wide audience, to increase capacity to respond to domestic abuse.
- monitor, influence and respond to government policy and legislation as a Subject Matter Expert, giving a voice to survivors of domestic abuse.
- work in partnership, sharing our expertise with all relevant agencies to ensure a joined-up response to domestic abuse.
