Story

I am running the Royal Parks Half Marathon in honour of someone very special to me - my brother Zain.

In 2000, when Zain was born, he was not breathing.

After 13 minutes, he finally took his first breath. However, due to a lack of oxygen, parts of his brain had died. Zain was diagnosed with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy; he was left permanently deaf and with severe learning difficulties.

For my entire childhood, I was a young carer for Zain, and as an adult, I continue to be one of his primary carers. Being a carer is an incredibly difficult job but has taught me the importance of having a supportive community around you. This leads me to why I am running the Royal Parks Half Marathon.

Much of the medical support Zain has received since birth has come from the incredible team at Evelina London Children's Hospital. They were there for him during the most challenging times, providing help and support to him and our family.

Evelina Children's Hospital welcomes more than 100,000 children and young people every year. The work of the Evelina London team is so invaluable, and they offer hope, support, and care for so many children like my brother Zain.

To give you an idea of the impact of your donation:

£20 could help put a child's mind at ease with imaginative toys, books and games that explain what happens in hospital.

£50 could help the team put together rucksacks full of distraction toys for every ward and department.

£100 could give every child the chance to escape into their favourite film, by buying more DVD players with headphones.

Thank you so much for your listening to my story.

Please donate if you can. Thank you for all your support!
