Story
Last year I lost one of my best friends, Lucy, after she suffered from a ruptured brain aneurysm.
Lucy was one of the most healthy and active person I have met so this was completely out of the blue and unexpected. Before passing away, our friends, Lucy and I, had planned many running, cycling and type 2 events together which whilst unable to now do with Lucy, we will still continue to do.
My first and second event to honour her memory will be to raise money for the charity Brainbook. What better way to do this than to lace up my running shoes and run around a loop for 12 hours on the first anniversary of her passing away....followed by running 50km over the Peak District in September.
Brainbook provide pioneering research and cutting-edge equipment at the Royal London Hospital Neurosciences Department which is where Lucy was in a coma for before passing away. They charity and the hospital were invaluable and made what was an awful experience, just that little more manageable.
Brainbook support research into all aspects of neurological diseases, specifically around neurosurgery for brain tumours and traumatic brain injury. Donations will fund cutting-edge technology to the Neurosciences department at Barts Health NHS Trust.
