Story

Mirko’s Story

I’ve set myself the goal of raising £2,200 for Action for Children by cycling from London to Amsterdam in just 3 days.

I was basically born with a bicycle. Growing up in Münster, Germany — a city where bikes easily outnumber cars — cycling was simply part of everyday life.

Later on, that love for adventure took me all the way from Alaska to Panama on two wheels (the photo above is from the Mexican border!).

Despite living in London for over a decade, I’d strangely never crossed a border by bike. That changed when I heard about the EY London to Amsterdam Cycle Challenge, a three day ride supporting the brilliant charity Action for Children.

Here’s what the route looks like:

Day 1: London → Harwich / 129 km (80 miles) | 762m elevation

Day 2: Hook of Holland → Utrecht / 161 km (100 miles) | 292m elevation

Day 3: Utrecht → Amsterdam / 108 km (67 miles) | 124m elevation

I’ve set myself the goal of raising £2,200 for Action for Children — a charity doing life changing work to ensure every child has a safe, loving home and the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive. The need for their support is rising sharply, and every donation genuinely moves the needle for vulnerable children and families.

What £2,200 can mean in real impact

Reaching my target could help provide:

• A week of breakfast, lunch, snacks, and hot dinners for 55 children

• Warm winter clothing for 55 children

• A week of energy costs for 48 family homes

• 44 emergency food packages for families in crisis

• Food and essentials for 22 young people moving from care into independent living

• Over a week of funding for the entire Parent Talk support service

• Upgrades to 4 sensory and play areas for children and young people with disabilities

• 8 immediate hardship grants for children facing poverty or crisis situations such as domestic violence, disability, or poor health
